Dr. John Churchley
I am a retired education professional. I started as a secondary school music and math teacher, but also had roles as a Curriculum Coordinator (educational developer), Vice Principal, Principal, District Principal (HR), and Assistant Superintendent (HR then Elementary Education). After 32 years enjoying this K-12 work at School District #73 (Kamloops/Thompson), I received a tenure track appointment as Principal Lecturer at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). I taught in the School of Education and was Chair before moving to the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) as an Educational Developer. This final role was likely my favourite job of all, and gave me an opportunity to share what I had learned throughout my career.
I have since retired and moved to Vancouver Island for infinite beach walks, musical pursuits, and 12 month golf. However, I continue to stay connected as a contracted Offshore Schools Inspector for the BC Ministry of Education. I also consult and offer workshops in educational leadership and educational development topics (such as ISW facilitation). I write educational songs for fun and as a way to spice up some of these topics at workshops and in courses. You can find these songs (free to use as Creative Commons) at Learning about Learning (learningaboutlearning.net).
I also produced the Adventures in Teaching podcast for CELT, which can be accessed at https://www.tru.ca/celt/instructional-support/podcasts.html
